Fact labels: Verified Observed in Demo Inferred Not announced What these mean

The Hyphae branch in Mycelarium, the Steam game by PLAN KAPKAN, is about the core action in the Demo footage: shooting hyphae through the soil toward water and food. The branch has six upgrades, all shown on the official upgrade screenshot. This page walks them in tree order and keeps three things apart: what the screenshot shows, what third-party Demo footage showed, and what is still a blank. For the full 26-node picture, start from the upgrade tree map.

Where do the six Hyphae upgrades sit in the tree?

Shot Range is the only node on the first row of this branch. Under it sit three nodes: Budding Chance, Shot Width and Water Efficiency. Node Efficiency hangs below Budding Chance and Soil Penetration below Water Efficiency. Verified The map shows the same layout; select a node to see its neighbours.

The map is wider than the page. Scroll sideways, or use the node list under it.

Select a node to see where it sits in the tree. Costs and effects have not been announced.

What does Shot Range do?

Shot Range is the first Hyphae node, drawn with a glowing white ring and a red number 2. Verified The Steam feature list says you can improve range, and the in-game shot preview shows a length in centimetres, for example 91 cm with a -3 WATER label. Verified Put together, the likely reading is that this upgrade lets a single shot travel farther. Inferred How much farther, and for what price, is not announced. Not announced

What does Budding Chance do?

Budding Chance sits directly under Shot Range and is drawn as a hollow circle with a red number 2. Verified In third-party Demo footage, the end of a hypha sometimes grew a free node without a click, and the player’s own guess at the starting odds was low. Observed in Demo That clip is Gloworm’s Demo video, recorded before Demo 2.0. No official probability exists, so this wiki gives none. Not announced

In the Demo footage, a node is a point you click on a hypha to use as the start of the next shot, which is why a free one matters. Observed in Demo The beginner guide covers the shoot-and-node loop.

What do Shot Width and Water Efficiency do?

Shot Width and Water Efficiency both hang straight from Shot Range and both show padlocks in the screenshot. Verified The Steam feature list names width and water efficiency as improvements. Verified Shots cost water, and the cost is shown beside the aiming arrow, so Water Efficiency most plausibly reduces that cost. Inferred Rain is a separate thing: a tutorial hint in an official screenshot says hyphae shots do not cost water during rain. Verified Shot Width’s effect is not explained anywhere, and neither upgrade has an announced number. Not announced

What do Node Efficiency and Soil Penetration do?

Node Efficiency is the node below Budding Chance, and Soil Penetration is below Water Efficiency; both are padlocked. Verified The Steam feature list says “node cost” and “soil penetration”, and Node Efficiency is the closest node name to the first. Inferred Soil Penetration probably relates to how the hypha moves through different ground, since the world has soil, stones and water pockets. Inferred Neither effect has been described, so nothing more can be stated. Not announced

How do the Hyphae nodes match the Steam feature list?

The Steam page lists “range, width, water efficiency, node cost, budding chance, and soil penetration” as improvements. Verified Mapped to the tree:

Steam wording Tree node
Range Shot Range
Width Shot Width
Water efficiency Water Efficiency
Node cost Node Efficiency (our reading)
Budding chance Budding Chance
Soil penetration Soil Penetration

Five rows match by name. Only “node cost” is a reading, so it is marked as one.

What is still unknown about Hyphae upgrades?

  • The cost of every upgrade, and what the red numbers mean.
  • How much each upgrade changes a shot.
  • How upgrade Points are earned. See the FAQ.
  • Whether the tree is a strict unlock order or just a layout.
  • Which of these six the current Demo contains.

The Steam release is planned for November 3, 2026. Verified Once the full game is actually out, we plan to recheck this page against the in-game numbers.

FAQ

What is the first Hyphae upgrade in Mycelarium?
Shot Range. It is the top node of the Hyphae branch on the official upgrade screenshot, shown with a glowing ring and a red number 2. Its cost and effect size have not been announced.
What does Budding Chance do in Mycelarium?
In a third-party Demo video, hypha ends sometimes grew a free node, and the player guessed the starting chance was low. That is a guess, not an official figure, and it may change in the full game.
Do I need Shot Range before Water Efficiency?
The tree draws Water Efficiency below Shot Range and shows a padlock on it, which suggests you unlock them in that order. The developer has not explained the unlock rule, so treat it as a likely reading.
Is Node Efficiency the same as the node cost upgrade on Steam?
Probably. The Steam feature list says you can improve node cost, and the tree has no node named that, while Node Efficiency is the closest match. This is our reading and it is not confirmed.
How much do Hyphae upgrades cost in Mycelarium?
Not announced. Red numbers appear beside Shot Range and Budding Chance in the screenshot, but the developer has not said what they mean, so they should not be read as prices.
